X-rays Show What a Visual Exam Can’t
Discover Hidden Problems with
Modern X-ray Technology
Did you know that you can receive more radiation exposure from working in the yard outside for a day or playing a few rounds of golf than from a dental x-ray?
Compared to other types of x-rays, dental x-rays are very low in terms of the amount of radiation involved. With our use of the most modern dental technology, dental x-rays have become even safer than before. The benefits of x-rays to your health are much greater than the risk of small radiation exposure.
When taking necessary x-rays, we use a lead shield over your body to limit radiation exposure. How often x-rays are taken depends on your age, risk for disease and any symptoms of oral disease. In general, children may have more x-rays taken than adults. Since children’s teeth and jaws are developing, they are more likely to be affected by tooth decay.
X-rays can reveal important issues that are not visible with a visual exam such as:
- small cavities between teeth
- cavities hidden under fillings
- infections in the bone
- periodontal disease
- abscesses or cysts
Catching these items early is crucial to save time, cost, and discomfort. Without x-rays, we may miss something significant about your teeth and health. Please speak with us if you have any concerns about having x-rays taken.
