Oral conscious sedation is an excellent solution for patients who suffer fear of dental treatment, who have suffered prior dental trauma or who needs to undergo multiple procedures. Sedation adds a layer of relaxation and may reduce the number of sessions required. Sedation in dentistry refers to incremental doses of safe and tested calming medications, often taken by mouth, and administered by a qualified professional.

At Villaggio Dental, if a patient is considering sedation, we will first schedule a sedation consultation to make sure that you have a clear understanding of the procedure to evaluate your medical health and answer any questions you may have about sedation and your proposed treatment.

If you are a candidate for sedation, we will explain the procedure and dispense a pill to take the night before your appointment. We may also prescribe an additional pill to take in the morning of your visit. As a conscious sedation patient, you will be required to have someone to drive you to and from your visit. Once you arrive and throughout your appointment, we may add to your sedation additional medication and nitrous oxide in order to keep you completely comfortable during your treatment. In addition, you will have one of our friendly and competent dental assistants by your side at all times during your visit assisting with your dental treatment and seeing to your comfort.

Our doctors are trained and skilled in sedation dentistry with a variety of medications. We are licensed to administer sedation to patients from age six through adult.

In addition to minimizing pre-visit anxiety, oral sedation reduces memory of the treatment in many patients. The next day, most won’t recall much of what went on, which leaves them quite happy with the process. Patients frequently comment that it was the most pleasant dental experience they have ever had.
